This election cycle is the most consequential of my lifetime. The MAGA movement is playing a long game, hoping America’s passions and memories of the January 6 insurrection will fade. In the days following the attack on our Democracy, many Republicans expressed their outrage at what happened and called for Donald Trump to be held accountable. In the weeks and months that followed, they frantically tried to backpedal and rewrite history. They tried to tell us that it was the work of their favorite boogeyman – ANTIFA. Later, they tried to say it was an inside job by the “deep state”, the FBI, or even former President Obama. When that didn’t take, the insurrection became a harmless tour of the Capital. In recent months, the latest insult has been transforming the insurrections who had once been ANTIFA into patriotic martyrs and “hostages”.
This cannot stand. For me, the biggest lesson of January 6th is that our precious democracy is surprisingly fragile. The insurrection and the accompanying coup attempt failed because a handful of people, some of them Republicans, put country above party. They did their patriotic duty to shut it down this cynical bid to retain power at all cost. The guardrails held – barely.
The tipping point that started me down the path of running for Congress was the release of Project 2025. This document, composed by the Heritage Foundation and numerous conservative leaders, is the blueprint for what they see as the next Trump Presidency. They are now saying the quiet part out loud. Filled with plans for retribution and oppression, this is Democracy -ending stuff. It strengthens the office of the Presidency beyond all reason in a manner that would have the founding fathers spinning in their graves. Part of their plan is to remove the guardrails that stopped their previous attempt to defy the will of the people. They want to install cronies in positions of power based on loyalty and ideological purity rather than competence and merit. This cannot be allowed to happen.
If elected, I will do everything in my power to preserve our democracy. I will prevent history from being re-written and ensure that all those who defiled our hallowed halls of democracy face justice. I will defend and uphold voting rights and work to end partisan gerrymandering. I will work tirelessly for criminal justice and judicial reforms and I will take up the fight to overturn Citizens United.
Sadly many Americans have come to believe that the deck is stacked against them and that American Dream is slipping beyond their reach. Further, they fear that healthcare, education, housing, and social advancement will be even more out of reach for their children. The theme of my campaign is RESTORING THE DREAM. If I am elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that healthcare will be the birthright of every American. I will work to restore accessibility, accountability and affordability in higher education and job training. Our highly educated and highly trained workforce will be the envy of the world and that workforce will be paid a living wage with the possibility of wealth creation, home ownership and upward social mobility.
We live in a very precarious moment in our great American experiment. While I am passionate about restoring and strengthening the middle class, we need to take back our democracy in order to achieve that. Average Americans will never outspend the billionaire class while we live in a post Citizens United world – but we have numbers. Those who seek to divide us with culture war rhetoric cannot prevail when patriotic Americans work together RESTORING THE DREAM. Please consider supporting my campaign with a contribution of your time, talent or treasure. It would be my great honor to serve the people of Florida’s 4th Congressional District.
